You've just landed after hours in the air. Your phone has no signal yet, the kids are tired, and someone is already asking "Taxi? Taxi?". Which option is really the best one?
In Egypt you have three main ways to get from the airport to your hotel. Each has its place, and the cheapest-looking one isn't always the cheapest in the end. Here's an honest comparison.
Airport taxis: fast to find, hard to price
Taxis are waiting outside every terminal, so you can leave straight away. The catch is the price: it's often negotiated on the spot, and visitors who don't know the going rate easily pay much more.
Ride-hailing apps: great in the city, tricky at the airport
In Cairo and other big cities, apps are cheap and convenient for short trips. At the airport it's another story:
- you need mobile data the moment you land;
- pickup points at terminals can be confusing, and drivers sometimes cancel;
- large suitcases, child seats or groups of five or more often don't fit.
Private transfer: the price is fixed before you fly
With a pre-booked transfer, your driver is waiting with your name when you walk out. The price is agreed in advance and includes tolls, parking and waiting time. The car is chosen for your group and your bags, and a delayed flight doesn't change anything: we track it.
It's the calmest option after a long flight, especially at night, with children, or when you're heading to another city.
